Adults learning togetherAt St James, we believe that it's important to keep learning and growing in faith throughout your life. So our educational program doesn't stop with Sunday School. We provide a range of educational opportunities throughout the year.
On most Sundays during the school year (the exceptions being Sundays when we hold parish-wide celebrations), we offer an adult education program. Concurrently with adult ed, we offer a "Parents Time Out." This is an opportunity for parents of Sunday School children to gather for coffee, read the newspaper, and discuss things of interest. Once a month, a discussion of issues related to parenting will be facilitated.
On Thursday mornings, a Bible study group meets to study and discuss sections of both the Old and the New Testaments, along with books of interest. (Call the office to check meeting dates).
During the Lenten Season, we run an evening program that combines informal Communion services with studies led by the Rector and the Christian Formation Committee. Recent studies have focused on the Beatitudes, and the Psalms of Ascent, Handel's Messiah, and Christ's Journey to the Cross.
During the summer months, we offer a short bible study group each Sunday morning from 8.55am to 9.20am. We spend this time reflecting on one or more of the readings set in the lectionary for that day, using the African Bible Study method. This is open to all ages, including children.
We also have occasional evening pizza and DVD nights through the summer. These inter-generational events are open to all, and families are encouraged to attend. After a pizza dinner, we watch brief videos that explore Christian themes and Scripture as they intersect with our everyday lives. They entertain and promote questions and discussion for all ages, from 6 to 60+ years old!
